I bought mine because it had the fewest buttons with the most obvious functions. It’s for my technophobic father-in-law who won’t touch a PC and can’t operate most of the functions of his TV’s remote control. This is the best user interface I have seen for such people. They really put some thought into it. They didn’t just put up a group of identical, symetrically-arranged buttons whose labels you have to read to know which to press. I bought mine at Goodwill, so it came without a user’s manual. But it was obvious enough how to use it, and the stickers on the back provided enough additional information to ease setting up the outgoing message and correct day and time.

I thank Casio for their attention to the user interface. More companies should do likewise.

The single problem I have had is that the VOX threshhold is a bit too high. Some calls get cut off after 10 seconds (all mine from my work phone) while most of them can go on – presumably up to the documented 5 minute limit.

Why be bothered by the uncertainty of cassette tapes or the expense of voicemail services when you can get the reliability of digital recording in a compact, easy-to-use answering machine featuring call screening and remote operation? The Casio PhoneMate TA-105, with all-digital recording technology, brings simplicity and security to message management.

The TA-105 is easy to set up and operate. When you have a new message, the TA-105’s bright red indicator light flashes quickly. With a touch of the big, blue Play/Pause button, the TA-105’s synthesized voice announces the number of total and new messages and plays back the new ones, with the time and day stamp announced for each. Press the Play/Pause button again to listen to saved messages, too. You can skip or erase any message during play, or you can erase all messages at once. Don’t worry about accidental erasure during a power failure; the TA-105’s battery back-up will save your greeting, messages, and programmed settings.

For added convenience, the TA-105 will help you screen your calls–you can listen to incoming messages through the speaker and pick up the phone or extension if you’d like to take the call.

We tested the TA-105’s recording capacity, and it successfully met its rating of 18 minutes in total recording time and five minutes maximum for a single message. The sound quality is good and, unlike some comparable machines, plays at a volume loud enough to be heard over competing home or office noise.

Remote operation is possible from nearly any touchtone or cellular phone, or even from a rotary phone if you use the optional touchtone dialer accessory available from the manufacturer. Follow the voice prompts for instructions, or just hang up, and your new messages will automatically be saved. And, with the toll-saver setting, the TA-105 allows you to avoid long distance charges by letting you know if new messages are waiting before it answers.

Setup and programming are simple; we successfully recorded a personal greeting without consulting the user manual. Additional programming, including setting the day/time stamp, is just a two- or three-step process, with guidance provided by recorded voice prompts.

Overall, we think the TA-105 provides quick and uncomplicated message management and would be a smart addition to any home or office with a small to medium call volume.

This machine never worked reliably. It occasionally would cut off callers in the middle of their message. Also the battery backup does not work.

Got this machine for free from a yard sale…Works fine but I don’t know how to individually erase messages because it didn’t come with an operators manual so….I’ll try Casios tech # that I got from here unless someone just wants to give me the big ole secret here….otherwise I have to wait for one in the mail….is there a pdf version available?

Ok, these “user’s review” have their share of dummies, but some of the reviews about this great little answering machine top them all ! Beware: don’t believe eveything you read !

This Casio of mine has been working perfectly for 2 years now: electrical burn-outs are no problem: the 9 volt battery takes care of the outgoing message and all of the recorded messages.

You CAN erase each message individually, and skip to the next one, without being forced to listen to is entirety. It does everything it claims in the manual, and you would know that if you’d READ THE MANUAL !

Works great ! Buy it if you cand find one !

Hard to hear?! – Steve D – West Chester, PA
I’m reposting this review from Philips CD1551B/37 Expandable Digital Cordless Phone with Digital Answering Machine because I’m not sure of the differences between the /37 and /23 models.

I’ve owned this phone for 4 months now and I regret it. It was a gift from our wedding registry and I feel bad for the family member that had to pay money for this.

My number one complaint about this phone is the fact that it’s *very* difficult to hear anything through the ear piece. I’m 28 with pretty good hearing and if you have any background noise it’s a struggle to hear them speaking. Even with the volume at maximum it’s still very low. The workaround I use is to always enable speakerphone as it’s actually quite loud. Though this is pretty unacceptable as the speakerphone picks up so much ambient noise that the person on the other end has a hard time hearing me.

My next complaint is the caller ID feature on the phone. For some reason there’s no way to view the entire caller ID name if it’s a longer name or a business name. I’ll come home to a missed call but no way to view the entire name, only a portion of it. Tapping the scroll arrow on the phone doesn’t allow it to show the entire name!

My last complaint (as if any more were needed) is that the remote answering machine system is broken. When I call in and enter my password half of the time it’ll be silent then hang up. The other half of the time it’ll playback a message but then stop responding to my button presses and hang up. It’s very frustrating to use and so I’ve stopped checking my housephone for voicemails.

Overall this phone is ridiculously frustrating. Stay away from this one!

No good, buy something else – A. McClellan – USA
It looks nice, but doesn’t work nice. It seems like I’m putting a new 9 volt battery in it every few weeks. Never could save messages and after playing a message, listen good and have your pen and paper handy because they get lost.

I cheaped out and got this answering machine for [$$] as a temporary until I got a better phone/answering machine. Boy, I guess price really does count. The look is ok, although big for a digital machine. It was easy to hook up. The machine has scarce features, which is expected in a low-end model. It has a blinking indicator to let you know that either you have messages or that your battery is low; it’s up to you to determine which. It doesn’t have a way to erase messages… they get erased when another message records over them. Not so great if you have something on your machine that you don’t want someone you live with to listen to. Finally, the big whammy….. sound quality. It was horrible. It made me sound like I was in a fuzzy tin can. It went straight back into the box and is going back to store. I wouldn’t recommend it for anyone.

After much research I bought this set a few months back to replace an old 900 MHz digital and a more modern (but still dated) 2.4 GHz model. Especially on the latter phone the interference had been terrible, even through just one wall or floor. In contrast, this phone system works great. We now have 5 phones all over the house that are interchangeable. Initially I had started to designate one particular phone for each base location (for paging from other sites) but quickly realized that the phones were being swapped for one another so the paging feature has little use for us (but no fault of the phone, of course). The menu system is intuitive (no need for me to resort to that ultimately unmanly thing of actually looking at the manual).

What prompted me to write this review is that while talking to my wife the other day the signal started to drop a bit for the first time that I’ve ever heard it do that with this phone. I asked where she was (thinking “oh no, it’s going bad after a few months”) and was amazed that she had while we were talking put our dog on her leash and walked her up the block to the corner. That’s got to be several hundred feet and through multiple walls / obstructions which is incredible to me compared to all previous phones I have owned. Please also keep in mind that our house has a wireless b/g/n router and multiple networked devices adding to the radio ‘din’. I actually bought this locally since I rather expected to need to return it but I would heartily recommend buying it online since it is such a great product. Five stars.

THIS PHONE SYSTEM BEATS ANY ONE I HAD PRIOR. IT HAS A LOT OF HANDSETS AND THEIR OWN BASES AND I CAN HAVE ONE AVAILABLE TO ME IN ALMOST EVERY ROOM. THE BEST FEATURE ON THIS PHONE IS THAT YOU CAN BLOCK CALLS THAT YOU DO NOT KNOW IF THERE IS A PHONE NUMBER. THE PHONE WILL ACTUALLY ONLY RING ONCE AND THE CALLER WILL THEN GET A BUSY SIGNAL. This new system fit right in seamlessly and is exactly what we wanted. The message mode works great. We now have phones all throughout the house and can even walk outside and down the street (I don’t know how far, but this isn’t something we would normally do) and continue to talk and hear quite well. We also kept our old (three units) Panasonic phones active and now have eight handy phones throughout the house and garage.

I bought the five phone system from Amazon to replace an aging Panasonic three phone. The price was right and the new system does the job, but not as impressively. The construction was light plastic and nowhere near the quality of the older system. There is no beacon light to locate the phone in a dark room, although it lights up fine with an incoming call. The sound quality is very good but not up to the standards of the older system. It has a audio caller ID function which reads the caller’s name but its a bit difficult to understand. The feature I like the best is the automatic blocking of all calls that do not disclose a phone number. Another plus is that an individual malfunctioning phone set can be easily replaced, a real problem with the old ones.

The individual hand sets are a bit clumsy to handle, but we found that attaching the provided belt clips to the two most used hand sets helped quite a bit. The wireless range seems very adequate. The key pads buttons are large and well enough lit, calling and answering is a breeze. It has a speakerphone function that we haven’t tried to use yet.

I bought this system to replace a Motorola MD70/MD71 system because the old system did not provide a good signal range. This system delivers a much better range and the sound is loud and crystal. Bluetooth feature works fine and is cool. My complain goes to the fact that you cannot name the units (you must use numbers and know that kitchen is #1, bedroom is #2, etc). Also, I found the menu not so user friendly, as you must navigate to redial for example (why not having a key?). And finally I believe that Motorola had more options as ringtones.

This product does NOT use DECT 6.0 technology – Alfredo Raul Peña –
I bought this handset because it is advertised as a DECT 6.0 handset. According to the DECT 6.0 standard, the products that comply with it should be interoperable with DECT 6.0 products from other manufacturers. This is not the case with this Vtech handset, which only works with the associated base unit, as was confirmed to me by Vtech support.

Reviewing the handset documentation it can be noted that no reference to the DECT standard protocols is made, although it does use the UPCS frequencies that DECT 6 uses. Also, there is no official DECT 6 logo neither in the documentation or the product itself, even when Vtech is a full member of the DECT forum. Printed in the documentation is an unofficial DECT 6.0 logo that is clearly in violation of DECT forum rules (see [...])

I think Vtech is using false advertising and references to DECT 6.0 should be removed from their products.

This is a great phone, I rarely pick up my cell phone with the units built in bluetooth. For the price and looks you can not go wrong. Next to B&O this phone is phonetastic!!!!!!

This phone is great its sleek but functional. I like the touch screen style and the answering machine is very high quality,calls and messages are very clear and easy to understand. The only problem that I found was once you disconnect the 2nd handset from the main its a little tricky to get it set back up. However a quick call to Vtech for support straightened it out in no time. Otherwise this was an excellent purchase.

I was wondering if a reconditioned version of this phone system would perform as well as a new phone. This phone met or exceeded all expectations. I needed a phone with caller ID, digital answering machine, walk around capabilities, a place to plug in head set for wandering the house while talking on phone….this system did all of that and more. Was also able to choose different ring tones or melodies for different callers, and record custom answering messages.

All in all very pleased with this phone. The biggest shocker was receiving a wonderful phone system for under 50.00, when it was more than apparent that this was more of a 2-300.00 phone system. I received the phone less than a week after placing order, and though the instruction manual (more like a small phone book) was 82 pages…had it up and running in less than 30 min.

My only worry was that, as a refurbished unit, I might experience problems with this phone. Not so, at least not yet anyway. Delivery was fast, product was excellent, price was scary low (in a good way), and more than a month later, absolutely no problems or issues. Love this phone. By the way, I was wondering if the volume on the speaker would be clear and loud enough? More than loud enough, also very clear…unusual, considering I have the phone base 2 inches from my computer stack.

One other thing: This phone also has a place for an extra phone battery in the base of the unit, in the event of power outages, this phone will operate like a corded unit. Usually, walk-around phones (cordless) don’t function in power outages, so this is a wonderful option not normally found with walk-around phones, and would be wonderful in the event of emergencies.

The only thing this phone doesn’t do is make my coffee or do my dishes. Maybe AT&T’s next phone will do those things as well. Great buy, highly recommended!

After 18 months, my thoughts:

- Battery shows low after 50-80 minutes of talking (after a 24+ hour charge).
- Sound quality is good … about 80% of the time, when I’m sitting in the same room.
- Sound breaks up at about 30′ away, through one interior wall.
+ I like the caller-ID-specific ring tones.
- About one-quarter of the time, caller ID doesn’t always show the number/identity until the fourth ring.
- Lowest volume ring is still pretty loud (bad if not everyone in the house is on the same schedule),

If I’d paid full retail, I’d rate this phone 1-2 stars; for the I paid, it’s worth three.

I’ve had this phone for over a year, and I’m very unimpressed. It feels like a cheap plastic toy. The sound quality is quite poor; even with the volume up to the max, I often have trouble hearing the caller. I’ve also missed a lot of messages, because it’s way too easy to accidentally delete messages that haven’t been listened to yet. Altogether, this is the worst quality phone I’ve ever had. Now that the batteries in the handsets have all died, I’ll be quite happy to replace the whole thing.

Volume on hand set is very poor even at the loudest. The speaker phone does not work with anyone on a headset – any customer service rep in a call center.

The message function is its only good feature.

I’ve been through a lot of cordless phones and they all suffered from some major deficiency. While there are a couple minor deficiencies, this Panasonic seems to be the best on the market. Avoid buying just for the talking caller id – I found it annoying so I do not even use this feature. Other than that here are all the reasons I like it – unable to find another phone with all this:
- Consistently rated as the best phone on the market with positive user reviews
- Excellent voice quality on speaker or handset although if I turn it up too loud (louder than any other phone I’ve owned). I do get a bit of an echo so turn it down one notch from max.
- DECT 6.0 technology: eliminates all static and interference from anything else and range is much farther than non-Dect (you could take it to the yard with you).
- The extra handsets do not need a phone jack. They just need a wall outlet to plug the charger into so you can place them anywhere (woo-hoo!!! Can avoid running extra phone wire to my living room)
- Uses NiMH batteries instead of NiCad. Can leave the unit in the base without shortening battery life, don’t need to run batteries to zero before charging.
- Speaker phone on handsets as well as base unit (so you can put the phone down while on hold).
- From any handset, can pick up msgs from the included answering machine.
- Built in light on every handset flashes when there is new msg.
- Transferable programming: preprogram your numbers into one handset and they automatically get transferred to all other handsets.
- Can initially buy with 1,2,3,4, or 5 handsets and additional single units can also later be added on.
- Lighted key pad when it rings in dark room.
- Storage for more phone numbers (50) than most phones
- There is a jack on each handset to use a headset for hands free operation.

this is the 2 nd panasonic dect 6.0 phone system i purchased….i liked mine so much i bought 1 for a friend….dect 6.0 allows you more freedom from your base….has more features than my previous panasonic…panasonic has been making the best quality phones for ever….mine have been refurbished and i have not been able to see any difference from new except the price is about 40% off reg price…my 3 unit system cost me ….my last panasonic still works 10 years old….joey

We have always used Panasonic cordless phones as they never disappointed us. This model is no different, just better. Great range, looks beautiful, great clarity, best of all the handsets use ordinary rechargeable AA batteries. When these get old, we will buy Panasonics phones again. The only con is that we have not been able to figure out how to change the ringer tone to melody on the phone base like we can on the handsets. Love the night mode feature when we do not want to be disturbed during sleep hours. Also the feature to block a list of phone #’s is awesome!

We have owned this machine for a couple of years now. It has proven to be superior to every answering machine we have previously owned in a very important respect: it still works as well as it did when we first installed it. It is adequate in every respect but one, which is only of interest to rural users: it does not have a battery backup for the time and date settings.

We live in rural Virginia, and the power fails fairly frequently at some times of the year due to ice storms, wind-blown tree limbs, etc. When this happens, the KXTM100B preserves our greeting and our messages, but we have to reset the time and day of the week. Until we do that (it is very easy to do), the unit does not record these with new incoming messages.

That said, the unit is, in every other respect, at the very least adequate, and in most ways excellent and easy to use. We have not had any of the negative experiences reported by others here.

Bottom line: knowing what we know, we’d buy it again.
